Len M. Allen has spent over 35 years in the corporate worlds of retail, television, radio, and newspaper. The last 7 years of his “first career” were spent running in-house advertising agencies for large companies. In the mid-nineties he was Advertising Director for a chain of convenience stores with 121 stores in two states. In 1996 he became the Advertising and Marketing Director for a company in New Mexico with 320 stores in Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma. He then moved on to a “second career” in ministry, as a pastor in Dallas and El Paso, Texas.
Born and raised in Pierre, South Dakota Len went to college at South Dakota State University. He then transferred to the University of Hawaii in Honolulu where he attended for 3 years majoring in commercial art and art history. In 1972 he graduated, with a double major and triple minor, from The University of Sioux Falls back in his home state of South Dakota.
He returned to Hawaii where he began his career as a ditch-digger and met his wife, Beverly, who is a Hawaiian-born Chinese American. They have been married over 40 years. Because of Bev’s influence Len went from ditch-digger to corporate Vice President within two years and his career was off and running. They have lived and worked in Hawaii, California, South Dakota, Tennessee, New Mexico, and Texas and are now back here in their old home of Chattanooga.
Currently he is a full-time writer and speaker. Len fills his days writing and teaching Bible studies to individuals and small groups. He has spoken to churches, Sunday School groups, civic groups, business conferences, retreats, and camps.
Currently he teaches a 13-week course on Bible Study Methods at Silverdale Bible Institute in association with Silverdale Baptist Church in Chattanooga. His book entitled, “Unemployed: Life in the Wilderness” is no longer in print although excerpts are available through this blog under the heading “Unemployed Life.” His second book, “Why The Wise Men Came To Christmas” is available on Amazon.com.
Len brings his life experiences as a Christ-follower and his humor to this blog site. He hope you enjoy and are challenged by them. In the meantime,
He’s thinking about it…
