The Electric Toothbrush & God

Electric ToothbrushI’ve spent the summer thinking about my life as a Christ follower… an activity I recommend by the way.  I’ve recommitted my days to being “a doer of God’s Word and not a hearer only.” (James 1:22)

While thinking of the ramifications of a statement like that I began to think about how my electric toothbrush functions like Jesus in my life.

Consider these “electric toothbrush” truths.

  1. The electric toothbrush cleans… Jesus cleans us.

but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.       1 John 1:7

  1. The electric toothbrush polishes… Jesus disciples and sanctifies us.

Therefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people through His own blood, suffered outside the gate.       Hebrews 13:12

But know that the Lord has set apart the godly man for Himself…     Psalm 4:3

  1. The electric toothbrush does all the work. I don’t have to vigorously move it up, down, and sideways… Jesus lives the Christian life through us and for us.

Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.       2 Peter 1:2–3

I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might.       Ephesians 1:18–19

I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.       Philippians 4:13

Have you been cleansed by the blood of Christ?

Has He polished you into a true Christ-following disciple?

Are you relaxing and letting Christ work His wondrous power in and through you?

Think about it.

Been awhile! Only you would talk about Jesus as my spiritual toothbrush!?! The one part you didn’t talk about was that if you don’t put the toothbrush in your mouth it doesn’t work … we DO have a part in our salvation and growing experience. We must accept and repent – realize how nasty our teeth are and WANT to clean them! LOL. Glad you’re back in the saddle again, or is that dental chair?

Love the simplicity of your analogy, doc. I like Sue’s addition as well. I’ll add to this just another thought.. brushing away the accumulation of plaque, dirt, grime / sin; is recommended 3 times a day or after each meal! Think about every action during our daily lives where we are exposed to the things of this world that may cause us to stumble into sin. Cleansing through prayer, reading God’s word or calling upon the Holy spirit to intervene for others….is necessary breakfast, lunch and dinner…and oh, gosh….don’t forget to brush after snacking, as well. ” Food for thought” ♡
