As we are praying through the Navigator’s tool “30 Days of Praying the Names and Attributes of God” I realize that so often my prayers slip into a plea for something I want or think I need. I beg God to take action and, so often, put my requests in terms of Him getting out some cosmic checkbook and sending me money to “solve all my problems.”
quoting from the Navigator tool:
God is Jehovah-Jireh.
“The God who provides.” Just as He provided yesterday, He will also provide today and tomorrow. He grants deliverance from sin, the oil of joy for the ashes of sorrow, and eternal citizenship in His Kingdom for all those adopted into His household.
Then they came to the place of which God had told him; and Abraham built the altar there and arranged the wood, and bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” He said, “Do not stretch out your hand against the lad, and do nothing to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.” Then Abraham raised his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him a ram caught in the thicket by his horns; and Abraham went and took the ram and offered him up for a burnt offering in the place of his son. Abraham called the name of that place The Lord Will Provide, as it is said to this day, “In the mount of the Lord it will be provided.” Genesis 22:9–14
Father, help me not think of You as one who CAN provide a list of my perceived needs. Instead, help me praise You for all the things You HAVE provided for me already. You have provided Your Son, Jesus, to die for my sins. You have provided me with life and breath to sing Your praises. You have provided Your Word so that I could study all Your instructions and provided the Holy Spirit to help me understand all the blessings You have already given me. You are a God who has provided love, mercy, grace, strength, power, and blessings. Based upon all that You have given me – I KNOW You are Jehovah-Jireh… the God who provides. And I KNOW You will continue to be Jehovah-Jireh for everything I truly need from this day on and forever. Lord, You provide and I will praise You as I do right now. Amen!
It is vain for you to rise up early, To retire late, To eat the bread of painful labors; For He gives to His beloved even in his sleep. Psalm 127:2
For the Lord God is a sun and shield; The Lord gives grace and glory; No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly. O Lord of hosts, How blessed is the man who trusts in You! Psalm 84:11–12
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16
Praise God for the reality of all He has already provided you… that’s just the kind of God He is.
Think about it…
