I have a friend who’s a realtor. He works hard representing his company in the listing and selling of homes in our area. And I’ve been thinking about his signs. You see, during the weekends when he is showing folks homes to buy or “sitting” open houses to sell, he has these cool magnetic signs that stick to the doors of his car as if they were painted there.
His company’s name, his name, and his phone number, are boldly emblazoned on these big sheets of magnetic plastic that turn his personal vehicle into a business machine representing his firm for all to see.
But, after the weekend is over, he removes the signs and puts them in the trunk until the next week. For the other six days the car is just that… a car. He can go anywhere and no one can tell he’s even a realtor, let alone what company he works for.
Now, for realtors this practice is just fine… but, is our faith like that? Do we put a big sign up on weekends that says, “Christian here… going to such and such church here… really holy here… look at my good life here… this is my public testimony that I am a follower of Jesus Christ…”?
BUT after Sunday is over and we’ve done our “Christian duty,” those signs come off and get packed away in the trunk of our lives. We spend the rest of the week as just plain people not representing anyone in particular at all.
What does Jesus have to say about those removable, magnetic signs we hide in our trunks during the week?
“Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
“Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 10:32–33
The book of Proverbs doesn’t mince words either,
In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:6
Maybe it’s time to get the doors of your life permanently painted with the banner declaring, “Christ Follower, Forgiven Sinner, Follower after God’s own heart, and Proclaimer of the Good News of Jesus to all I see (and all who see me)!” “I represent Him every day and all the time!”
Think about it…
