We are praying through the Navigator’s tool “30 Days of Praying the Names and Attributes of God.” It’s time to think about how we fit in relationship to the Person of God.
quoting from the Navigator tool:
God is Elohim.
This name means “Strength” or “Power.” He is transcendent, mighty and strong. Elohim is the great name of God, displaying His supreme power, sovereignty, and faithfulness in His covenant relationship with us.
“I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your descendants after you. “I will give to you and to your descendants after you, the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.” Genesis 17:7–8
The word “God” in those Genesis verses above is the word “Elohim” in the original language of Hebrew. Also spelled ĕlôhîym it is pronounced “el-o-heem.” But, more important than the pronunciation is its meaning… “Strength” or “Power.”
Every Christ-follower will admit that God is strong and powerful. After all, that’s one of the things that makes Him God. But, it’s easy for each of us to forget that in the daily activities of life. When things get hard – when times are tough – when circumstances look stacked against us and we cry out to the Lord – we often worry about what’s going to happen next. We wonder if God can do anything to help. And we can lose sight of the strength and power of His very nature.
And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. 2 Corinthians 12:9
that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, Ephesians 3:16
so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light. Colossians 1:10–12
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Ephesians 6:10
“With Him are wisdom and might; To Him belong counsel and understanding. Job 12:13
In light of all the power and might granted to us by Elohim (The All powerful, All mighty God) when tough times and seemingly overwhelming circumstances hit us, as they are bound to do, we need to remember the above verses and all the power God has and has given to us.
Take a moment and consider how these following verses apply to you. Are you a Christian? Then you are completely protected by Elohim Himself. Can anything or anyone take you away from the love and sheltering hands of God?
But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:37–39
