About Len

Len M. Allen spent over 35 years in television, radio, newspapers, and retail operations and management.

Born and raised in South Dakota, he attended college at South Dakota State University.  After a snow storm of 109 inches, he was “led” to transfer to the University of Hawaii in Honolulu which he attended for three years majoring in commercial art and art history… and sunshine!  In 1972 he graduated, with a double major and triple minor from the University of Sioux Falls back in his home state of South Dakota.

After returning to Hawaii he began his business career as a ditch-digger and met his wife, Beverly, a Hawaiian-born Chinese American.  They have been married over 40 years and have one son. Because of Bev’s good influence, Len went from ditch-digger to corporate Vice President within one and a half years and his career was off and running.

The last 7 years of his “first career” were spent running in-house advertising agencies for large companies.  In the mid-nineties he was Advertising Director for a chain of convenience stores with 121 locations in Tennessee and Georgia.  Then, in 1996 he became the Advertising and Marketing Director for a company in New Mexico with 320 stores in Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma.

In 2003 Len moved on to a “second career” in ministry, as a pastor in Dallas and El Paso, Texas.  After retiring for a second time he works part-time as the Adult Ministries Assistant at Silverdale Baptist Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  Additionally he teaches a course on Bible study methods at the Silverdale Bible Institute.  Currently he is a full-time writer and speaker.  His first book entitled, “Unemployed: Life in the Wilderness” is out of print while his second book, “Why The Wise Men Came To Christmas” is available through Amazon.com.  Along with this written blog, Len has a YouTube channel.

Len has lived and worked in Hawaii, California, South Dakota, Tennessee, New Mexico, and Texas and now resides in Chattanooga.
